UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND

‘Dig the Sound – Not the Sight’

Formed in 2005, the UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND is a collection of jazz musicians, retired from their respective professional endeavours but wishing to maintain their enthusiasm for traditional jazz.

Most members gather each Monday night at the Elsternwick Club for an informal jam session, playing music in the New Orleans/Dixieland style. Their repertoire includes a wonderful selection of music from the 1920s onward.

The band is modelled on a similar one from the CLUB DEI BRUTTI, or ‘UGLY CLUB’, in Piobiocco, Italy. (The Club de Brutti is a service club whose motto is ‘Beauty is Slavery. Ugliness is a Virtue’.)

Membership of UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND is based on musicality and appearance. A prized attribute is to have a face that only a mother could love. (They have been unable to find a female vocalist or instrumentalist who meets the criteria – all female applicants have been far too attractive.)

Their players are all well qualified – visually and aurally. They play honest jazz: what you see and what you hear is what you get.

The UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND has performed at the Halls Gap, Inverloch and Merimbula Jazz Festivals, as well as various private functions, and their love of jazz is infectious.

Please contact the UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND for your venue or special function. It’s loads of fun, and will soon get your party swinging.

Best of all, the UGLY CLUB JAZZ BAND is probably a whole lot cheaper than you think! For further information, please call Naham Warhaft on 0418 54 66 54.
